Jack Campbell
Position: Goaltender Catches: Left Height: 6-2 Weight: 185 lbs. Birthdate: Jan. 9, 1992 Hometown: Port Huron, MI Drafted: Selected by Dallas in the first round (11th overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft
In 2009-10, goaltender Jack Campbell won a gold medal at the IIHF World Junior Championship, received the USA Hockey Dave Peterson Goaltender of the Year Award and capped the season by being the first goaltender and first American-born player selected in the NHL Entry Draft – a Draft which had a record-setting number of Americans taken in the first round. Making his season even more historic is the fact that he was a member of just the second U.S. team to ever win gold at the World Junior Championship.
Coincidentally, Campbell was the highest-drafted American goaltender since Al Montoya (Glenview, IL) was taken sixth overall by the Rangers in 2004. Montoya was the goalie who backstopped Team USA to its World Junior Championship gold medal earlier that year.
Campbell, who entered the gold medal game of the 2010 World Junior Championship versus Canada midway through the second period, helped lead Team USA to a 6-5 OT victory. In addition to that gold medal, Campbell also won back-to-back gold medals in the 2009 and 2010 World U-18 Championships, making him and teammate Jason Zucker the first American males to earn three gold medals in IIHF events. In those three events, Campbell has posted a combined record of 10-1-1-1 with a 1.17 GAA, a .954 SV% and six shutouts
Campbell is now in his first season with the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League. With a winning pedigree in international play and another year of experience under his belt, Campbell should solidify Team USA’s goaltending corps as they look to defend their gold medal in 2011. |
