BUFFALO N.Y- A disappointing Semi-final series forces top tournament teams USA and Sweden to battle for the bronze medal this afternoon at HSBC Arena.

USA and Sweden both received byes into the Semi-final round after trumping the competition in their respective groups and earning 11 points, while remaining undefeated.

The Americans, who won three games in regulation and one in overtime in the preliminaries, were ousted from gold medal contention in a Semi-final match up with rival Canada. Team Canada sought to redeem themselves after they lost to the USA 6-5 in overtime at last year’s gold game.

Team USA can expect to have solidarity in net as they look to play star goaltender Jack Campbell, who has been stellar from start to finish. Campbell earned a 93.98 save percentage with a 1.63 goals against average. Campbell was awarded best player in the game against Finland in the preliminaries and against Canada in the Semi-finals.

Forward Charlie Coyle can also make a difference in the game as he led the Americans in total points with six as he netted two goals and four assists in tournament games.

The Swedes were favored because of their undefeated record and proved themselves against the Russians in preliminary Game 9 at Dwyer Arena where Sweden earned a 2-0 shut out. Sweden held the same record as the U.S in the preliminaries and found themselves out of the Gold game after falling 4-3 to Russia in a shootout decision.

Sweden looks to team point leader Patrick Cehlin who had four goals and two assists in five games, including the power play goal that erased the deficit against Russia on Monday.

The Swedes also have Calle Jarnkrock and Jesper Fasth, each who earned five points in five games. Jarnkrock had two goals and three assists while Fasth earned three goals and two assists with a plus-3 rating.

The Americans have won six total medals in the history of the World Juniors with two gold, one silver and three bronze. The Swedes have won a total of 14, with one gold, nine silver, and four bronze.

Teams Russia and Canada will compete for Gold following the end of this game, starting at 7:30 p.m.
